Withstand voltage test is a key test method for detecting whether electrical equipment, pressure vessels or piping systems have sufficient insulation strength and structural stability under high voltage or high voltage conditions. It is widely used in electric power, chemical industry, construction, machinery manufacturing and other fields, and is an important means to ensure the safe operation of equipment. This paper will introduce the basic concept, test types and implementation steps of withstand voltage test.

First, the basic principle of withstand voltage test

The core purpose of withstand voltage test is to verify whether the equipment or system can keep stable operation without breakdown, leakage or structural damage when it exceeds its normal working pressure or voltage. By applying high voltage (in electrical equipment) or overpressure (in pressure vessel) for a certain period of time, the insulation performance or pressure bearing capacity of equipment can be evaluated.

Second, the type of withstand voltage test
  transformerccording to different test objects and purposes, common withstand voltage tests can be divided into the following categories:

1. AC withstand voltage test: mainly used for electrical equipment, such as transformers, cables and switch cabinets. Apply AC voltage higher than the rated voltage, usually 1.5~2 times.

2. DC withstand voltage test: it is suitable for cables, insulators and other equipment to test their insulation performance under DC high voltage.

3. Hydrostatic test: used for piping systems, pressure vessels, etc., where water is used as the medium to apply a pressure higher than the working pressure to check whether there is leakage or deformation.

4. Air pressure test: it is suitable for occasions where water cannot be used for testing, such as some gas equipment, and air or inert gas is used for pressure testing.

Third, the implementation steps of withstand voltage test
  transformer. Test preparation:

-Define the technical parameters and standard requirements of the tested equipment.

-Prepare corresponding test equipment (such as high voltage generator, booster transformer, pressure pump, etc.) and measuring instruments.

-Ensure the safety of the test environment, and set warning signs and isolation areas.

2. Equipment inspection and connection:

-Check the appearance of the equipment for damage or defects.

-Connect the tested equipment and test equipment correctly to ensure good grounding.

-Install necessary protective devices to prevent accidents during the test.

3. Apply test voltage or pressure:

-Step up the voltage to the test value according to the standards or regulations, so as to avoid sudden rise of voltage or pressure.

-Keep the test voltage or pressure for a certain time (usually 1~5 minutes).

4. Observe and record data:

-Observe the state of the equipment closely during maintenance, and record parameters such as current, voltage and pressure changes.

-Pay attention to whether there are any abnormal phenomena such as breakdown, discharge, leakage or obvious deformation.

5. Step-down or power-off to end the test:

-Slowly reduce the voltage or pressure to zero, disconnect the power supply or release the pressure.
  transformerFully discharge or exhaust the equipment to ensure the safe removal of the connection.

6. Determination of test results:

-Judging whether the test has passed or not according to the recorded data and observation results.

-If there is no abnormality during the test and all indicators meet the standard requirements, it is judged as qualified.

Fourth, matters needing attention

-The withstand voltage test is a high-risk operation and must be carried out by professionals in accordance with relevant safety regulations;

-It is strictly prohibited to adjust or repair the equipment when it is charged or under pressure;

-All participants should wear necessary protective equipment and keep a safe distance;

-The equipment must be thoroughly inspected before the test to avoid accidents caused by equipment defects.
  transformerIn a word, the withstand voltage test is a highly technical and safety testing work. Correct and standardized withstand voltage test is not only helpful to evaluate the performance of equipment, but also can effectively prevent potential safety hazards and ensure the safety of personnel and equipment. In actual operation, we must strictly follow the relevant national standards and industry norms to ensure the scientificity and reliability of the test.
